1. Guidebook producers Mr & Mrs Smith named Tasmania one of the hottest holiday destinations worldwide during 2012.

2. Hobart was the 10th popular destination in Australia for accommodation bookings on Wotif in 2011.

3. Hotel chain Best Western recorded a 45% increase in hotel nookings for the state in 2011.

4. The Overland Track won the award for best adventure holiday destination in the Australian Traveller Magazine’s Readers Choice Awards for 2011.

5. Tourism Australai managing director Andrew McEvoy said Tasmania was home to the three most exciting new tourism developments in Australia:

     * MONA - the Museum of Old and New Art

     * The Saffire development on the esat coast of Tasmania; and

     *Barnbougle golf course in the North East.

6. Lonely Planet listed Tasmania’s West Coast as one of the top 10 cycling routes in the world.
